Workshops for Grieving Parents & Loved Ones

My Loved One Just Committed Suicide, Now What?

When a loved one dies by suicide, we feel helpless, hopeless and overwhelmed with questions.  The whys are heart-pounding and the loss is traumatic. Common sense does not work because there is no sense in this senseless tragedy.  And yet, we know we must move forward and continue on with life. This practical, how-to workshop provides the answers to every day questions every person must face following suicide, including:

  • What to say when people ask questions
  • How to deal with overwhelming feelings
  • What to do when you are angry at your loved one
  • How to handle suicide within your family, including other children

Moving From Tragedy to Triumph: Saying Good-bye to a Loved One

Guilt, shame and suffering are common to all who are dealing with the aftereffects of suicide and the ensuing bereavement. You are not alone. This is normal. You’ve experienced a major trauma.  In this workshop, you will give yourself (and others) permission to accept these feelings and move beyond them. You can move forward stepping out of guilt and shame.  You have a right to live your life even though your loved one took their life. Saying good-bye doesn’t mean forgetting those you loved. Simple, yet powerful processes to return to peace will be shared.

Workshops for Families Dealing with a Suicidal Loved One

Bridging & Bonding – Improving Communication Between Individuals With Suicidal Tendencies and Their Families

Do you truly know what your suicidal loved one feels?  What oceans of turmoil s/he experiences each day?  What torrents of panic s/he feels day-in and day-out? And, yet those who are not suicidal also must live each day with their suicidal loved ones. The stress, the fear on both sides is palpable.

In this workshop, Sue Serlin helps participants who are dealing with loved ones who are suicidal to develop practical communication strategies to bridge the gap with their loved ones. By bridging this gap in understanding, families can deepen the bond with their loved ones and alleviate stress related to questions, such as: “Am I doing enough to help?” and “What else can I do?”

This practical, how-to workshop provides simple tools participants can use immediately, including:

  • Learning how to effectively listen to their suicidal loved one
  • How to ask for more information from their loved one
  • Letting go of the shackles of denial, shame and guilt to become more empowered and proactive
  • How to work better together – why each family is different, yet can find common ground

The threat of suicide clouds every family who faces this challenge. This workshop is designed to leave you feeling empowered and equipped to face this and work toward a stronger bond with your loved one.

Finding Common Ground

Why is my loved one suicidal and why can’t they just be happy? Your loved one is mentally-ill, and if you have questions like this, likely you are not. When a loved one is mentally-ill and suicidal, finding common ground is essential. This practical workshop will give you the tools you need to help your loved one, a frame of mind to support yourself (and them), and specifics to watch for to ensure you do everything you can to help your loved one survive.

Workshop for Educators

Bullying  – Preparing Children to Overcome the Real World

What if it was the accepted norm to give forth positives rather than a rejection of putting down others blaming and attacking? This workshop will share with children how to overcome bullying and also how to ensure they don’t become bullies themselves.

In this program children will discover:

  • What creates and escalates bullying
  • How we bully ourselves
  • How to forgive others, even of ourselves
  • Techniques in making decision as well as recognizing the consequences of actions
